CYCLING IN VERSILIA

In a mild climate and ideal as the Versilia spend the holidays by bike, entering paths and paths diversified for professionals or fans of this sport, is a pleasure that no one wants to give up. A territory rich in hidden corners and surprises as well as history and traditions, all immersed in a nature suspended between the mountains and the sea, this is the uniqueness of Versilia, which is therefore suitable to be traveled by bicycle, with a safe cycle path that connects the seafront 30 km of coast, from Marina di Massa passing through Forte dei Marmi, the Marina of PietrasantaLido di Camaiore, Viareggio up to the beach of Torre del Lago.

From Viareggio to Lake Massaciuccoli (itinerary to do by e-bike, bike or mountain bike)

Moving from the brackish and romantic sea of Versilia you can in no time reach the Levante pine forest of Viareggio, where the first unpaved road begins. Here, immersed in the greenery and the scent of trees, we have the opportunity to walk roads and trails that would otherwise be prohibited and to cross one of the most beautiful pine forests in Italy. Once you reach Torre del Lago Puccini, on the west coast of Lake Massaciuccoli, you can visit the house of Giacomo Puccini and the large outdoor theater dedicated to him. Then, following the new cycle paths including that of the "Lotus Flowers", a particular and beautiful road built, in parts, over the lake and in the middle of the Lotus Flowers you reach Massarosa. From here it is a must to go to the nearby village of Massaciuccoli, from which you then arrive at the Oasis LIPU. In this oasis you can see hidden among the huts different species of rare and magnificent birds, and with about 700 meters of walkway that develops among the reeds you can see the Marsh Falcon, the Nightingale of the river, the Forapaglie castagnolo or even better the Tarabusino, symbol of the Oasis. The destination has finally been reached but the beauties to be discovered are not yet finished, in fact on the way back you can visit the archaeological area "Massaciuccoli romana", with the Thermal Quarter and the Mosaic with fantastic animals. In the km covered the asphalt is touched only for a 5% of the route and it is also an excursion that can also be carried out together with smaller children carried on child seats.

On the hills of Pietrasanta (E-bike, bike or mountain bike itinerary)

This route, not too demanding and interesting from a naturalistic point of view, as it invites visitors to discover the most rural part of Pietrasanta, alternates several paved sections with other dirt roads and short stretches of path, and allows to connect in a panoramic way the hilly hamlets of the municipality. From the center of Pietrasanta follow the signs for Seravezza and once in the village of Vallecchia you have to turn right with indication SolaioThen you have to remember not to turn towards Castello and found an old sink in disuse take on the right a steep branch that alternates dirt with asphalt and ends near a house. From this point then you need to take a very steep path with the bike in hand and after about 10 minutes you come out on top of the hill, in Villa Il Colle. Take, then, turning left, a narrow asphalt road that soon leads (at a sharp bend) on the road, which leads from Pietrasanta to Capriglia. Follow this road slightly uphill that after the village continues to climb for about 1 km., then descends in the direction of the village of Capezzano Monte. The road goes down with numerous hairpin bends crossing olive groves and after about 5 km, the town of Pietrasanta, starting point of the itinerary. From Capezzano Monte you can return to Pietrasanta through a dirt road (second detour left past the cemetery of Capezzano Monte), which reaches the floor near the Romanesque Parish Church of S. Giovanni and S.ta Felicita. This dirt road, at first flat, then descends steeply, through olive groves, southwards, until it turns into a path in the last stretch before the road.

Ring between Forte dei Marmi, Marina di Pietrasanta, Lido di Camaiore and Viareggio

This charming route can start from any point of the cycle path "Fausto Coppi" of Viareggio, to be followed in a northern direction. It is a straight and flat route, therefore accessible to all, about 3 km to the Fossa dell'Abate, the natural border with the tourist resort of Lido di Camaiore. On the right, parallel to the track, are the prestigious and luxurious hotels in the city, many of which have preserved the architectural features of the early "'900", in Art Nouveau style, as well as many private buildings. To the left of the track, along the pedestrian avenues Margherita and Marconi, there are the bathing establishments, which still retain the distinctive style of the city. At the end of the cycle track you pass on the left a footbridge over the Fossa dell'Abate. Our itinerary now continues along the cycle path of the promenade of Lido Camaiore. From Focette di Marina di Pietrasanta (almost in front of the famous disco "La Bussola") continue along the promenade bike path, beyond the center of Tonfano (Marina di Pietrasanta) until the end of Fiumetto (Marina di Pietrasanta). Continue along hotels and bathing establishments to Forte dei Marmi. After passing the town center, leaving on the left the panoramic pier, the cycle path continues, on the left of the avenue overlooking the bathing establishments and this until the beginning of Cinquale. Along this stretch, the free beach is flanked. From the sign that indicates the beginning of the Province of Massa, on the right, we will find again the cycle path, which will lead us through the towns of Ronchi and Poveromo, also passing the sign that shows the 44 Parallel. Allowing us to get to Marina of Massa.
